"I know a thing or two about voice teachers, having burned and churned my way through a dozen of them in my frustrating journey to develop as an amateur singer/songwriter, and I can unequivocally say that Lindy is the first teacher I've had who has: -- Instilled in me the confidence that my quest to be a vocalist isn't futile -- Made me want to work hard during and between lessons -- Become as much of a friend as she has a teacher More importantly, perhaps, I've made real progress in the four months that I've been working with her, and am looking forward to seeing where continued progress will take me... That said, Lindy's approach is unconventional, and she may not ultimately be the right teacher for everyone. Regardless, if you're serious about developing your voice, I think you would do well to book a lesson with her and find out for yourself whether or not she's a good fit for you (and I suspect she would be the first person to tell you if she weren't)."
"I took singing lessons with Lindy for a little over a year and I am 110% satisfied with her teaching. She taught me so much about singing, songwriting and even taught me how to play the piano so I am now writing chords for my songs. She is also great because she tailors how she teaches to each individual student. She will help you focus on what you need to accomplish your goals, whatever they may be. The quality of my voice now is amazing - everyone who's known me since before I started taking lessons with her is astonished by the transformation. Before working with Lindy I was in a small band and did a few open mics. Now i'm in a regular gigging cover-band as well as working to record my own original demo. I cannot say enough about what a great teacher Lindy is. If you're looking for an instructor who is going to teach you EXACTLY what you need to succeed, whatever level you are trying to get to, then Lindy is it!"
"Over the years I have really struggled finding a music teacher who I thought really understood what I was trying to do musically, and after the first few lessons I wish I could have ran into her sooner in my music career. Lindy really took the time to really get at the heart of what I was trying to do with my voice and helped guide me to further develop myself to a point that I think I could actually be successful on stage. Not only does she have the experience to be able to focus lessons specific to your skills, but she's also a terrific person who's fun to be around.."
"When I met Lindy, I had many years' experience as a drummer, but most of my attempts as a singer were met with derision. Lindy helped me break down the bad habits I'd formed and build up good ones. Her immense amounts of vocal study and years of teaching allow her to effortlessly hone in on vocal problem areas and how to correct them. While most teachers run through the same exercises lesson after lesson, Lindy picks exercises and song assignments based on your technique shortcomings and your individual voice. I think even the most experienced singer can benefit from lessons with Lindy!"
"Lindy is the most effective and gifted vocal coach and performer I have ever studied under. She gave me direction, practice and motivation to move forward. At the time I was singing in the Harvest Lifechangers Mass Choir, but felt that I needed more training to improve. Not long after I began working with her, Lindy moved back to the west coast, but encouraged me to get a microphone and begin performing even more. Her thorough training helped prepare me for my performance last December at the Kennedy Center Honors Program where I sang "The Rising" with the Joyce Garrett Choir and Sting in a segment honoring Bruce Springsteen."
"I had the pleasure of working with Lindy for about half a year-before she moved to California. In that time I went from a complete beginner with no singing experience to being able to accompany myself on guitar and piano. I have never worked with a teacher in any field who is as committed and talented as Lindy. She will give it to you straight, and if something isn't working she'll come up with something on the fly in order for you to 'get it. 'Do yourself a favor - if you want to become a better singer give Lindy a call. Simple as that."
"I've been studying under Lindy for several months now, and have noticed a tremendous difference from the very first lesson. I had a totally different idea of what singing was before she began helping me unlearn my bad habits. Singing has become easier and more enjoyable for me, whereas I always felt like I was straining before. I can hear myself more critically now, and far beyond merely correcting pitch. I used to make people grimace, but now I make people say wow, and yet I know I can learn and grow so much more. Being a parent, working full-time, and being in a band, my schedule is hellish, but Lindy has always managed to accommodate me. I look forward to every hour I spend with her, not only because it always takes me to a level above wherever I'm at, but because Lindy cares deeply about her students and their progress, and provides for a fun, yet productive lesson each and every time. Lindy is also quite GLBT-friendly. I would recommend Lindy to anyone seeking voice lessons!"
"Lindy worked with my son for over a year. His ability, as well as his confidence, advanced significantly. This formed the basis for his working with a band as their guitarist/vocalist. A great experience, would recommend Lindy to work with anyone from beginners on up."
"In writing this review for Lindy, I would like to be as objective as possible. However, I have to admit this is difficult because Lindy LaFontaine is by far one of the best teachers I have had to date. I am speaking in terms of not just vocal, but guitar, piano or otherwise! Lindy has an incredible knowledge base and a wealth of experience. That is undeniable. She is a working musician who is out there doing her thing Sunday to Saturday. But what sets Lindy apart from most other teachers is that she absolutely loves to teach! With Lindy I always have the sense that she genuinely wants me to reach my goals. When I came to Lindy months ago, I shared those goals with her and she has kept me on point every step of the way. Additionally, she invests enough in me to have goals of her own for me as her student. Lindy once voiced a concern that some students felt that she didn't shower enough praise on them. This has not been my experience, but if you need to be constantly told you're fabulous, then may be Lindy isn't the right teacher for you. Since I have been working with Lindy, the feedback I have received from others is that both my singing and songwriting are much stronger than ever before. Given that I have been working with other vocal coaches much longer than Lindy, it is a testament to her abilities as an instructor. I am finally gaining the confidence I need to get out there and it is due largely impart to her. Lindy listens to your voice with an empathetic, but well trained ear. She is like a doctor for the voice, so she will hear what's keeping you from sounding optimal and work with you to fix it. When you make progress she is clearly excited and glad, but she is not overly effusive. Having said that, if you are looking for a teacher who will: - invest in you as much as you invest in yourself as an singer/artist - assist you in defining your goals and help keep you on track - listen to your voice with an unbelievably well trained ear and then immediately tailor your program to what you need to be a better singer instead of giving you "canned exercises" -impart her invaluable knowledge from her over a decade long career of working within the industry If you answered yes to most of this, I would seriously pick up the phone or send an email NOW. Her prices are very reasonable for what you are getting, which is an amazing, caring, and fun (most of the time lol) instructor!"
